May Moments: Spring into Action

May Moments: Spring into Action

The beginning of the summer term may not have been filled with sunshine, but there has been plenty of action! We have some wonderful updates and stories to share from The Nest. New arrivals, fruitful harvests, and lots of engagement with our local community. We’re excited to take you through the highlights of May!

Farm Updates

1. Welcome Our New Arrivals: Baby Lambs and Goats!

We are delighted to announce the birth of adorable baby lambs and goats on the farm! These playful and charming little ones are bouncing around the fields at The Nest.

2. Polytunnel in Full Bloom

Our polytunnel is thriving, and we’re beginning to see the fruits of our labor. We’ve just started harvesting fresh potatoes, and they are as delicious as they are rewarding to grow. This is just the beginning of what promises to be a bountiful season.

Recent Activities

1. Alpaca Shearing and Wool Spinning

We had a delightful time watching our alpacas being sheared. The process was fascinating, and our young people enjoyed learning how to skirt and spin their wool.

2. Success at the Suffolk Show

Our participation in the Suffolk Show was a resounding success! Our beautifully made stand, hand-painted by our talented young people, drew many visitors. It was wonderful to connect with youth workers, social workers, members of the public and other local charities, sharing the impactful work we do at The Nest. Our young people shone brightly, helping to give out stickers and share their personal stories, inspiring others with their journeys and hope.

3. Framlingham College hockey event

On 23rd May the incredible pupils of Framlingham college set a challenge to dribble two balls – one representing the men’s hockey team and one representing the women’s hockey team – the distance between Framlingham College and the Paris Olympic Stadium, a total of 489 km or 1,671 laps of the pitch! All within a 24 hour period. They successfully completed their challenge and have raised a fantastic amount for The Nest, total to be revealed soon. We would like to thank everyone who took part for all their hand work and effort to arrange the event and for keeping those balls going!

 4. Noddys tractor run

Next month on Sunday 9th June we are very excited about the Noddy tractor run who will be raising money for The Nest and Prostate Cancer UK. The event will kick off at Elmsett airfield with the tractors departing at 10am. Once they return in the afternoon beef burgers, veggie burgers, hot dogs , ice creams and drinks will all be available. So come along and enjoy some tractors! You can find out more information on their Facebook page Noddys tractor run.

Looking Ahead

As we embark on our final term of this academic year we are so proud of our young people. Many of them are currently sitting their exams and others are planning their journeys for life beyond The Nest. We are so looking forward to the new term in September, as we continue to grow and thrive to support our young people to the best we can in our local community.
